Tannenkirch "Steingäßle" Path (Vineyard Trail)

Enjoy ever-changing facets of the countryside throughout your 5 km walk whilst admiring the many species of local fauna and flora. Discover something of the cultural heritage left in the Rhine valley over 1000 years ago by Roman settlers introducing viticulture.

Tannenkirch is first documented as a wine-producing hamlet in 1196 although viticulture clearly began in much earlier times.

The Tannenkirch "Steingäßle" Path derives its name from the eroded track (Steingäßli) which led from the church to the mountain top until the remodelling of the vineyards in the mid-1950s. "Steingässli" nonetheless continues to define a specific stretch of vineyards.

19 plaques give interesting information on viticulture, the region and Tannenkirch itself. Starting point is the "Festplatz" in Tannenkirch.

Geology Trail

A period lime kiln has been sited in the upper Wollbach Valley since 1929. It was restored in the 1960s and the Geology Trail was constructed in and around the kiln so as to convey an impression of the special geological features of this area.
